The following WoW warlock guide attempts to get you headed down the correct path when you are starting out with a warlock. Warlocks are masters of the dark arts with the ability to control fire, shadows and demons – all explained in this warlock leveling guide.

Unique to warlocks are soul shards, which are consumed by certain spells and can be acquired from defeated mobs. The warlock class is easy to level quickly due to the fact that they are very self sufficient when soloing.

They’re usually among the best damage dispensing classes when in a raid.

This class is a choice that is available only to the Undead, Orc, Human, Gnome, and Blood Elf races.

Due to being a caster class, they are only allowed to use cloth armor.

For weapons, they are limited to daggers, staves, swords and wands.

Probably the coolest power of a warlock is demon summoning (Doomguard, Felguard, Felhunter, Imp, Infernal, Succubus, and Voidwalker). Each minion has it’s role with different benefits and drawbacks.

Whether it’s damage over time (DoT), direct damage (DD), or demon summoning, the warlock is able to cast a full range of magic spells. Soul shards can be expended for conjuring various items and even for resurrecting your dead teammates.

They also have a minor self healing power via drain life, and some crowd control talents as well. Warlocks are able to get mounts at a much lower cost than most other classes since they are summoned via magic and not directly purchased.

The Affliction talent tree uses talents that are designed to bolster the warlock’s curses, damage over time spells, and drains. This works great for raiding, boss killing, and farming. It is the best specialization for leveling fast.

The Demonology talent tree uses talents that are intended to make summoned demons more powerful and more effective, as well as improving conjuring spells and giving you other passive bonuses. This is a good specialization for leveling, PvP, and general survivability. This spec can be utilized at lower levels to help make up for a lack of decent spell damage loot.

Destruction uses talents that amplify the effectiveness of the warlock’s fire and shadow spells, which are mostly direct damage spells that can be used to quickly eliminate one opponent. This spec is not as popular as the other specs during the early levels. It requires a lot of soul shards, is less mana efficient, and is hard to use effectively for those who wish to play solo.

The spells commanded by the warlock class are all focused on inflicting excruciating pain and anguish. They’re able to hurl powerful spells from afar, but as this WoW leveling guide shows they’re not equipped for fighting up close since they don’t have any substantial physical defense.
